Interns & Co-ops
At the John Winthrop School we partner with several different colleges to provide instruction and placement for their students. We regularly host students from the Early Childhood Education department at Fisher College and the Education and Psychology departments at Wheelock College. We also often participate in studies conducted by graduate students from local schools such as Boston University, Emerson College, Boston College, and Harvard University. In addition to hosting college students performing a practicum in education, we also participate in the Northeastern University Co-op program. Co-op students from Northeastern serve as teaching assistants in each of our classrooms and stay with the same group of children for an entire semester.
We encourage the college students visiting our school to share with us their talents and interests. Just as they are learning from us about careers in Early Childhood Education, we can learn from their experiences and gifts. College students provide an excellent model for children that the pursuit of knowledge is life-long.
With the addition of college students in our classrooms we are able to offer adult:child ratios over the state requirement.
