Example of a Curriculum Project

Over the course of the year the children in the Blue Room were very prolific with their artwork. The teachers wanted to find a way to honor the time, care, and skill the children put into their creations so they asked the children during group time what they should do with their works of art. The class decided to hold an art show. In preparation for the art show, the children reviewed their own portfolios of work and selected different works of art they wanted to feature in the art show. Some children chose to create special works of art specifically for the gallery. During group time the teachers introduced different books (fiction and nonfiction) about artists and artwork and introduced new vocabulary to the students such as gallery, texture, hue, saturation, stroke, and portfolio. The students designed displays for their artwork and created invitations for family and friends. Finally the day of the art show arrived and family and friends assembled in the classroom to share a special snack and enjoy the students’ artwork.
